John Prescott, the previous UK deputy prime minister, has died aged 86, his household introduced on Thursday morning.
“We’re deeply saddened to tell you that our beloved husband, father and grandfather, John Prescott, handed away peacefully yesterday on the age of 86,” his household wrote in a publish on his X profile.
Prescott served as deputy prime minister between 1997 and 2007 and was a key determine in Tony Blair’s New Labour venture.
A former seaman who left college aged 15, Prescott spent 27 years as an MP earlier than becoming a member of the cupboard after Blair’s landslide election victory in 1997.
He’s survived by his spouse Pauline and two sons, Johnathan and David.
